“I believe that racism is a learned behaviour. Teach your children acceptance of other people, not just tolerance. We all have a place in this world. It is said a parent is a child’s first teacher. Children are impressionable and emulate their parents. Your child learns by watching you and listening to your words, so be mindful of what you say and do.
Show everyone the same respect that you would expect from anyone else. No one is above another. As much as we need skilled surgeons, we also need the people who disinfect the operating rooms. Not everyone has had the same opportunity as you; teach empathy for those less fortunate.
Let’s all strive to be inclusive. If you don’t know something about a person, ask them. You may be surprised how much they want to share with you. Education is the key to fighting racism. Please use every opportunity to teach your children well.
